This Is America, Charlie Brown--The Building Of The Transcontinental Railroad
This is the story of how the railroads joining the east and west parts of America were built. Charlie Brown gives a report about this, explaining how workers of all kinds came together to help build the railroad, while telling the class that prejudice even existed towards those of other countries. The gang puts themselves into the story, helping to build alongside the younger workers. Railroad songs are sung while they work. The building eventually became a contest to see which side could finish faster. But the resulting railroad changed history and increased travel times by months.
