I just want to say that this really isn't one of my favorite specials. That's the reason why it took me so long to give it its own page. The animation isn't that great, and the story is a bit odd. It's probably because this was the first special made after Charles' Schulz' passing. I understand Bill Melendez wanted to make a special, but when you make something based on an old story, and put your own twist on it, sometimes it just doesn't work. And, it didn't originally come from any of the Peanuts strips, either.
Anyway, if you've ever read about the Pied Piper, you know how the story goes. But, for those of you who have never heard the story, it was about a little town called Hamlin that was invaded by rats. (In this story, it's sports mice.) The mayor of the town agrees to pay the piper to rid the town of mice, using his flute, by giving him gold. (Snoopy used an accordion, and asked for a year's supply of dog food.) When the mayor refuses to pay, the piper plays his music and draws the children out of town. (Snoopy ran the mayor and his workers out of town.) In the original story, the mayor agrees to pay and the piper brings the children back. There's a little bit of homage to the original story at the end. Well, here it is. You be the judge.
